Cabinet Making: Instructor

  PDF this page

Jason Turner holds a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Sam Houston State University. He has taught cabinet making at the Ferguson Unit since 2005.

His program consists of 10 different classes through which students earn 38 college credit hours and receive a certificate of completion.

In the course, students build two 12'×15' model kitchens. The program teaches them essential skills such as framing, layout, estimating, measuring, ripping and crosscutting materials, building and installing cabinets, and applying trim work. Students also gain hands-on experience using potentially hazardous equipment, including table saws and miter saws.

In addition, the course introduces students to construction terminology and industry-specific identification skills that can help them succeed in job interviews. The purpose of the program is to educate students in the field of cabinetmaking while providing hands-on, real-world experience through the construction of two complete model kitchens.
